Rain continued across central South Korea on September 1, with intense rainfall of 79.0 mm per hour observed in Taean, South Chungcheong Province. According to observations by the Daejeon Regional Meteorological Administration, this was the hourly rainfall recorded in Mallipo, Taean, at 10:10 a.m. In Wonbuk-myeon, concerns arose over the overflow of Bangyecheon, flooding reports were received from homes, and some residents evacuated to safer locations.
Key Changes
The clearest confirmed developments are localized heavy rain in Taean, along with flooding, evacuations, and access controls. Taean County blocked or restricted entry to areas around Bangyecheon, Galducheon, and Sakseoncheon in Wonbuk-myeon, bridges along rivers, and the underground roadway at the Bopsan Intersection.

Current Status
The Korea Meteorological Administration’s noon special weather advisory update for September 1 showed a heavy rain warning for Dangjin and a heavy rain advisory for Seosan in South Chungcheong Province. The heavy rain warning for Taean was lifted at noon, but the advisories for Dangjin and Seosan remained listed in the update issued at the same time.
Rain was expected to stop across most of the central region during the morning of September 1, but forecasts indicated that more than 100 mm of rain could fall along the western coast of South Chungcheong Province. Yonhap News reported that 80–150 mm of rain was expected in Daejeon, Sejong, and South Chungcheong Province through September 1, with more than 200 mm possible in some areas. The KMA’s short-term forecast included rain mainly over central regions and afternoon showers in southern regions and Jeju Island.
Impacts
The confirmed impacts include reports of flooded homes in Wonbuk-myeon, Taean; concerns over the overflow of Bangyecheon; the evacuation of some residents; and controls around rivers and underground roadways. Based on the information confirmed so far, it is not possible to conclude that there have been casualties in Taean or nationwide traffic paralysis.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety advises people to avoid the following places during heavy rain and to move to a safe location if evacuation is requested.
- Flooded roads and underground roadways
- Areas along rivers and the coast
- Mountainous areas and steep slopes
