CD PROJEKT RED has announced September 29, 2026, as the release date for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered. The announcement was made during gamescom Opening Night Live. A native Nintendo Switch 2 version and a Battle.net version are also scheduled to launch on the same day.
Key changes
The remaster goes beyond improving the original game's graphics and performance, introducing changes to its combat and movement systems as well. Witcher Sign effects, mount controls, monster behavior, the skill tree, transmog, and photo mode have been improved or expanded.
The key point is that this is an update that refines the existing game across multiple areas, rather than a transition to an entirely new game.
Current status
On GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, the remaster is expected to be offered as a free upgrade to existing game owners. Owners of the base game will also be able to access the two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, at no additional cost; both expansions are included with the remastered base game.
However, platform-specific free-upgrade and purchase conditions, as well as details such as save-data transfers, require additional official guidance.
Impact
Starting September 29, existing owners will be able to use the enhanced version together with the existing expansions. Purchase conditions for users who do not already own the game, along with platform-specific policies, were not disclosed beyond the information confirmed so far.
Songs of the Past is planned for 2027
The new paid expansion The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past is planned for release in 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The expansion is set in the new region of Letten and will introduce new enemies and a new weapon for Geralt: a chain.
As of September 1, 2026, the official announcements had not confirmed an exact release date or price. Any purchase plan based on a specific date or price should therefore wait for a subsequent announcement.
Next dates to watch
The first date to watch is the remaster's release on September 29, 2026. After that, it will be important to check whether the platform-specific upgrade conditions and the exact release date and price of Songs of the Past are officially announced.
