Rain or showers are expected nationwide from August 29 through 31 under the influence of a stationary front. The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast that some areas could receive very heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds, thunder, and lightning. South Chungcheong is the region drawing the most attention in this forecast.
South Chungcheong Could Receive More Than 200 mm on August 30–31
Yonhap News reported that Daejeon, Sejong, and South Chungcheong are expected to receive 80–150 mm of rain from August 30 to 31, with some areas potentially receiving more than 200 mm. YTN and SBS also reported that South Chungcheong could receive more than 200 mm during the same period, while parts of the Chungcheong and Honam regions could receive up to 100–150 mm or more.
“More than 200 mm at most” refers to the forecast for some areas within South Chungcheong; it does not mean that the same amount of rain will fall across the entire province.
According to Yonhap News, some areas could experience torrential rain exceeding 50 mm per hour from the night of August 29 into the early morning of August 30, and again from the night of August 30 into the early morning of August 31. The forecast for intense rain overnight and before dawn is a key variable in this weather event.

Forecast figures for the Seoul metropolitan area vary by location in the August 30–31 forecast. The KMA’s short-term forecast calls for 30–100 mm in southern Gyeonggi and 10–60 mm in Seoul, Incheon, northern Gyeonggi, and the Five West Sea Islands.
Daegu and North Gyeongsang were expected to receive 20–30 mm of rain by the evening of August 30, with daytime highs forecast at 27–32°C.
Current Advisories and Coastal Swell
The Korea Meteorological Administration stated that a heavy rain advisory was in effect for Gunsan, North Jeolla, on August 29. It also forecast that strong swells could move in along the southern coast and the coast of Jeju through August 29, and mainly along the east coast through August 30.
Reports citing the KMA’s explanation said that the stationary front developed as hot, humid air from the south collided with cold, dry air from the north over the Korean Peninsula.
