Giselle Silva has re-signed with GS Caltex for the 2026–2027 season. As a result, Silva will spend her fourth season with the club. Interest has recently grown around both GS Caltex’s championship win last season and the arrival of her new teammate, Thanacha Sooksod.

Key changes

GS Caltex’s biggest changes are Silva’s return and Thanacha’s arrival. Silva recorded 1,083 points in 36 matches and 139 sets during the 2025–2026 season, becoming the first player in the V-League to score 1,000 points for three consecutive seasons. That same season, GS Caltex started in third place in the regular league and went on to win the championship by finishing the postseason with six straight victories.

Current status

At the 2026–2027 season media day held on September 1, 2026, Silva and Thanacha were confirmed to have gone from opponents in last season’s championship final to teammates for the new season. Thanacha joined GS Caltex after leaving the Korea Expressway Corporation and described playing alongside Silva as an honor, adding that she is adapting to the new system.

GS Caltex player Yoo Seo-yeon shared her thoughts at the new-season media day after experiencing her second championship win as captain. However, the team’s actual results this season and the on-court chemistry between Silva and Thanacha have not yet been confirmed.

Impact

Head coach Lee Young-taek cited easing Silva’s attacking burden and diversifying the team’s offensive distribution as among the reasons for signing Thanacha. Accordingly, the key points to watch for GS Caltex this season are how quickly Thanacha adapts to the new system and how the team distributes its offense.

The changes confirmed so far concern the roster and planned player roles. More match records are needed before interpreting them as evidence of the team’s season results or championship prospects.

Next checkpoint

The next benchmark will be the official match records after the start of the 2026–2027 season. Match-by-match appearances, scoring, and offensive distribution will show whether Silva’s burden has been reduced and how well Thanacha has adapted.
