The 2026 Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Cup World Baduk Masters unified qualifier has concluded, with only Mok Jin-seok advancing to the main draw among 219 Korean players. A total of 386 players entered the unified qualifier, and Mok Jin-seok was the only Korean among the 16 players who qualified.

Key Changes

The unified qualifier finalists comprised 25 players from China, 5 from South Korea, 1 from France, and 1 from Singapore. South Korea was represented in the finals by Han Seung-ju, Kang Yu-taek, Kim Eun-ji, Han Jong-jin, and Mok Jin-seok. Mok Jin-seok defeated Han Jong-jin in the senior division final by resignation after 163 moves with Black.

Mok Jin-seok was the only Korean player to advance through the unified qualifier.

China secured 14 main-draw spots through the unified qualifier: 12 in the general division, plus 1 each in the women's and U-20 divisions. Among the 16 qualifiers, Xu Xiaofan of Singapore was the player to advance to the World Division main draw.

Current Status

This result reflects performance in the unified qualifier. The fact that only 1 of 219 Korean players advanced does not by itself indicate the final standings of the entire Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Cup or the countries' overall chances of winning the tournament.

Shin Jin-seo did not enter and then lose in the unified qualifier. He received a national seed and will advance directly to the 2026 Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Cup main draw without playing in the qualifier.

Impact

The stark contrast between the numbers of Korean and Chinese players advancing to the main draw through the qualifier shows that Chinese players achieved broader advancement in this unified qualifier. However, this is an interpretation of the qualifying results and should be distinguished from the final results of the main tournament.

Based on the qualifying results, the key Korean players to follow in the main draw are Mok Jin-seok, who qualified, and Shin Jin-seo, who advanced directly via a national seed.

Next Checkpoint

The 2026 Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Cup main tournament will hold its opening ceremony on November 9 at the Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Global Campus in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, with the round of 32 beginning on November 10.
